Studies on proteome and protein biomarker candidates using mass spectrometry

Yong Seok Choi

As mass spectrometry is making progress, our understanding on life sciences is flourishing by the help of proteomics based on mass spectrometry. Among many fields of life sciences, protein biomarker research is the very field truly inseparable from mass spectrometry and it is proven by tons of protein biomarker candidates discovered and identified by mass spectrometry. However, while their successes seem optimistic, cases of their acceptance in clinical fields are very rare. Thus, here, some approaches which can address the low success rate issue are introduced via examples of studies on human cerebrospinal fluid proteomics and human whole saliva proteomics.
